Several years ago early in the spring, Dan opened the grill and found a rather large bird’s nest with several eggs. We were surprised, and to be honest, we thought it was very cute. So much so, we did not grill that evening. In fact, we not only let the baby birds hatch, but waited until they learned to fly before we removed the nest and cleaned the grill. We did not have our first cookout that summer until around July 4th. Honestly, and probably a little naively, we thought it would never happen again.
But we were wrong. Every year we would open the grill in early spring to find a nest. No longer did we think this was cute. Each year we would promptly throw the nest into the woods, clean the grill and have our cookout. We certainly did not want to wait until July to use our grill!

But this year, we had the most determined Momma bird. Like years past, we opened the grill and found a nest in early spring. We took care of it, but a week or so later when we opened the grill there was another nest. Wow! Twice in one year. No eggs yet, so we felt better about ourselves not having to kill any babies when we threw the nest into the woods. 😂
But then it happened again!! And again! 4 times this year we had a nest in the grill. I did what I should have done years ago and purchased Dan a grill cover for Father’s Day.
As Dan was getting ready to cover his grill with his new cover, I mentioned that he might want to check for a nest.

There was no nest BUT there was one tiny egg sitting in the far, back corner of the grill!! I guess that Momma was too exhausted to build a whole nother nest for the fifth time.
It was like that Momma bird was saying to us, “I will lay my eggs here. I Will! I WILL!!
We had destroyed her nest four times within just a few weeks, but in her mind this was what she wanted and this was what she was going to get. Our little birdie had lost her way!
There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death. Proverbs 14:12
This is the way and the wisdom that is in our world today. The way that seems right in our own eyes. And so often the wisdom that is nesting in the hearts of so many Christians.
We chase our own dreams and follow the wishes of our own heart with great resolve and no thought of the will of God.
God can grant wishes,
Yet He has His Own too.
He is great and mighty,
A loving God true.
He forgave all my sins
And I loved Him so
That I yielded my wishes
To Him long ago.

Oh my friend, we were not created to follow our hearts or chase our dreams. When we do so, we are choosing the way of the lost and the path of destruction.
For it is written, I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and will bring to nothing the understanding of the prudent. I Corinthians 1:19
My little Momma bird lost her way when she chose her own way.
God does not often choose the wise and mighty men of the world to follow Him. Look at the disciples. Unlearned and ignorant men they were called.
God chooses those who believe His Word and lose their way in His.
I thought on my ways, and turned my feet unto thy testimonies. Psalm 119:59
Loser Bible Study Series Theme Verse:
“For whosoever will save his life shall lose it; but whosoever shall lose his life for my sake and the gospel's, the same shall save it.” Mark 8:35
“Lose” from the Greek word “Apollymi” means “to destroy fully.” It is translated destroy in I Corinthians 1:19, our verse for today.
