Day 7: Lost in a World of Fear

Originally posted on Facebook January 8, 2021

Theme Verse:

“For whosoever will save his life shall lose it; but whosoever shall lose his life for my sake and the gospel's, the same shall save it.” Mark 8:35

“Lose” from the Greek word “Apollymi” means “to destroy fully.” It is translated “destroy” in our verse for today.

“And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.” Matthew 10:28

We used to say about one of our daughters, “She’s in her own little world, but that’s okay they like her there!”

Sometimes as a Christian we become lost in a world of fear. In fact, we can be trapped by fear.

“The fear of man bringeth a snare: but whoso putteth his trust in the Lord shall be safe.” Proverbs 29:25

When one of our daughters was small, she had been playing outside by herself for quite some time and had some toys strewn all over our small yard. I had the front door open and had been watching her play nicely, when all of a sudden she came running in exclaiming fearfully that there was a FROG in the yard. I comforted her and told her it was okay, the frog would not harm her, but she did not wish to go back outside. I then asked her to go pick up her toys since she was done and assured her the frog would not harm her. I wanted her to trust me.

She obeyed and crept carefully down the steps into the yard. Next thing I know she is walking through the yard with both hands over her eyes. I called out, “What are you doing?”

Her reply. “I don’t want the frog to see me!!”

This sweet story has brought laughter to my heart many times through the years, but it has also taught me a great truth about fear. As a child of God, my heavenly Father knows what can truly harm me. I can trust Him. Is my world of fear real? Or, is it just something produced by my imagination? There is no need to be lost in a world of fear.
