Making peace is not a matter of control - controlling people or even controlling the outcome of a situation.

Making peace is not compromise. It does not involve sacrificing principles or deep-rooted convictions based on truth.

God's word says "Blessed are the peacemakers." So how can we have the blessing of Biblical peace in our relationships without control or compromise?

For me, it was a come-to-Jesus moment when I realized that I could NOT control what other people say or do any more than I can control the weather. I cannot control what other people say or do any more that I can control sickness or death.  Trying to control what other people say and do is tiresome and does not bring peace to a relationship. It drives a wedge of division in the relationship.

And though compromise on nonessential issues may be good for a relationship, when we compromise godly principles and convictions for the sake of peace with others we have turmoil within. We can feel guilty or we can become resentful. We can also lose relationships that have been a blessing to us because of our compromise. Compromise does not bring peace.

Peace like grace comes from God. It is a gift. Peace like love is a fruit of the Holy Spirit. It is produced in our lives as we walk in the Spirit, live in the Spirit and are led by the Spirit.

Making peace is not about control or compromise; it is about influence. Specifically, as we are led by the Holy Spirit, we use our influence to sow seeds of peace in each and every one of our relationships.

And the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace of them that make peace. James 3:18

Making peace is about living in the blessing of God, identifying as a child of God and representing our Father in a way that honors and glorifies Him.
